1449Foreign Language Friday: Our subject works for St Gregory's Foundation, which provides aid to Russia and the former Soviet Union. She’s pictured in her Norbury flat, from where she works, and explains in her audio clip that one of the projects the charity supports helps young people who leave orphanages.

On one trip to Russia, a girl “aged about 18 or 19” remarked to our subject how “complete strangers can be kind to me” following a trip to visit an exhibition, organised by the charity as a bit of fun for these young people.

“For the first time she’d seen that people who didn’t know her could still take a lot of trouble over her. It was both very sad and quite heartening.”
