She said: "We were watching the news on television at home and there was a feature about a HIV sufferer, who was on a cocktail of medication. I didn't understand what the disease was so my mum explained it to me and said it was better to be safe than sorry.

"It stuck in my mind because the HIV sufferer looked so ill, I didn't want to end up like that."
