1966“This phrase was told to my mother when she was in the delivery ward, about to give birth to me, 20-something years ago,” she explains in her audio clip. “She and the various other mums, probably a little bit high on drugs, were worrying about the state of the world.

“It was in the middle of the Cold War, the Berlin Wall had yet to come down. They were talking among themselves and wondering what kind of world they were bringing these babies into. At the height of their panic the midwife came round, said this to them.

”Whenever I’ve felt a little bit down, or worried about something, my mum’s always said it to me. As journalists, we see some horrible stuff, and it’s quite nice that there is always hope in the world. There’s always something to look forward to.” Taken outside the BBC in London, UK.
