1105 Hannah Merry Marlin sent this in from Vineyard Haven, Massachusetts in the US using the SOTM Flickr group. She explained: “Raised in a Caucasian, Jewish household, my family and i are all noted musicians, always eager to accept any choral invitation thrown at us, and happy to do so. so when i was offered to join the local NAACP Choir, who was i to say no?

“After the final concert, one of my black friends who had been in the audience came up to me and boldly stated, ‘You're not black, you're white. AND jewish!’

“Looking around me, i suddenly realized everyone else in the choir was black, (hence NAACP) and we burst out in laughter.

“I guess i didn't realize it because i had never felt so accepted.”
