2438“When I was about 15 I was going to Germany on exchange,” says Bridget in her audio clip. “I was talking to my parents and was very excited by it. The first thing that my dad said was that I had to get a job so I could earn some money to put towards the trip.

”I always wanted to do the right thing so I said ‘Of course, of course’. Then he thought about it for a bit longer and later said: ‘You know we can take care of you, we’ve probably got the money to do this, but you have to learn that you need to take care of yourself.”

”He didn’t mean it in a morbid way, just that you need to look after yourself first.”
