2495“I was in my second year of law school and everything was going along fine, then my sister was diagnosed with breast cancer,” says Catherine in her audio clip.

”Then six months later my other sister was diagnosed with breast cancer. I was having this really tough time accepting this fundamental unfairness of so many bad things happening to you at once.

”I really wanted to feel sorry for myself and to wallow in that but my friend Karen turned to me one day and said this. I was like: ‘That is so true. Life is not going to be fair to everyone.”

”That’s how I’ve looked at every problem since then, to stop worrying about the cosmic sense of fairness of things and just deal with the reality in front of me. It’s changed my approach to problem-solving and made me more pragmatic.”
